Win a trip to Paris 2011

January 13, 2011

European Athletics is offering expenses paid trips for two to the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championship in Paris to encourage you to participate in an international on-line survey of attitudes towards women and women leaders in athletics.

Each person who completes the three-part survey will be entered into a draw for the two first prizes, which include tickets to the championships, travel to Paris and hotel accommodation for the duration of the event for two persons.  Second and third prizes of European Athletics merchandise are also offered.

The survey is part of an overall project entitled “Closing the Leadership Gender Gap in European Athletics”, which is funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Royal Dutch Athletic Federation (Atletikunie) with assistance from European Athletics and eight partner federations.  It is open to athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans . . . anyone who is interested in athletics.

“Issues of gender (male or female) and leadership are very important for athletics and we believe it is important to find ways to increase the number of women in leadership positions, from coaches to the executive boards of the federations”, said Sylvia Barlag, the Project Ambassador who is a vice-president of Atletikunie and a member of the European Athletics Council.

“This survey will help us design programmes and ensure the sport continues to grow and become stronger.”

Prof. John Antonakis of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, who designed the survey with his research team said, “The questions are based on standard attitudinal research tools that have been often used throughout Europe. Some are sport-related and some are general questions about social issues. The answers will help us understand how people think, the internal culture of athletics, and how it affects the development of women leaders in the sport.”

“Most people find the three parts of the survey interesting eye-openers”, he added.

After completing Part 1, the survey participants will be automatically contacted by e-mail and invited to do Part 2 and Part 3.

The draw for the First Prizes will be conducted on 3 February 2011. For more information on the prizes and prize draw click here.
